Local Black Entrepreneurs Share Stories of Success on Connecticut Public's Disrupted Podcast

NEW HAVEN, CT – In celebration of National Black Business Month, Connecticut Public is shining a spotlight on local Black entrepreneurs who have navigated challenges and found success in their respective industries. Last August 15, the Disrupted podcast, featured three prominent business owners from the state: Karin Smith, Vincencia "Vee" Adusei, and Yves Joseph.

Hosted by award-winning scholar Khalilah Brown-Dean, along with co-hosts Kevin Chang Barnum, Erica McIntosh, Robyn Doyon-Aitken, and Megan Fitzgerald, the episode delved into the experiences of these entrepreneurs, highlighting their journeys and the triumphs they have achieved despite underrepresentation in business.

Podcast guests represented a diverse range of industries:

  • Karin Smith, co-owner of Kindred Thoughts Bookstore, an independent Black-owned bookstore in Bridgeport.

  • Vincencia “Vee” Adusei, owner and founder of VASE Construction in New Haven.

  • Yves Joseph, CEO and co-founder of RJ Development, a New Haven-based real estate development company.

The discussion explored the unique challenges and opportunities each guest encountered while building their businesses.
